Am curious as to how the OP visualizes a flying car Drag racing I am not most women shirt, sweater, hoodie and v-neck t-shirt. In the real world, it is generally accepted as involving a form of ground transportation. Suspect 1/4 or 1/8 mile drag car racing must have evolved from the idea of the “quarter-horse” races, which would only differ from cars by using an oval track. The same goes for human foot races where, except for the straight 100 yard sprint, they had 220 yd (1/8 mile), 440 yd. (1/4 mile) on an oval track. Of course, in most of the world, the distances are now metric, e.g., 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, etc. (General idea - there are some dissimilarities, the point being that the concept “translates”).
