There was a great ad by Kodak in American Cinematographer quite a Momsicle one who sits at a ballpark and freezes for the love of her child shirt, sweater, hoodie and v-neck t-shirt. It said simply “you want to talk about resolution? Film: 3000x4000 pixels”. It is pretty much a consensus that for stills film sits at a little over 12MP and that a digital 18MP for sure gets it all plus a bit. So about 4K in stills but when film is used in a motion picture camera things get muddy very quickly. The film frames are presented 24 times a second so you can’t just freeze a frame and start counting lines of resolution. Every film camera, every printer and every film projector is a mechanical device with non perfect registration. Plus a cine film camera does not expose all the negative area on the film strip unless anamorphic lenses are used but they introduce their own distortions into the image.
