Back in the fall, I was driving my Dragon Ball Christmas tree shirt, sweater to swim team practice as I have for many years when my child mentioned that she really did not like going anymore. This was not the first time she’d mentioned it, and I’d let her scale back a few days on practice.  You are going fewer days than you did last year, I pointed out.  I know, and it’s not helping to go less often. I just don’t feel like swimming is for me, my daughter said. That’s what it took to get me to stop talking – to stop making her choice about me – and to really hear what she’d been trying to tell me for months.
